Orion Group Life Sciences are currently recruiting a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer on behalf of our Multinational Biopharmaceutical Client based in Cambourne, UK on an initial 2-year contract with potential to extend. Hybrid role. Each team includes a Product Manager, Technology Lead, Product Designer, Delivery Lead, engineers and developers. As an Embedded Firmware Engineer , you will have a significant impact on multidisciplinary R&D projects, contribute to the development of new technologies and support the connected-device product line throughout both discovery and delivery. Develop robust and maintainable firmware suitable for production deployment. Develop embedded software within an RTOS environment, preferably FreeRTOS. Perform embedded debugging, fault investigation and root-cause analysis. Communicate technical progress, risks, issues and blockers clearly to relevant stakeholders. The position requires strong practical embedded engineering capability, sound technical judgement and the ability to work effectively with software, hardware, systems, integration and test stakeholders. Embedded Software Approximately 5 years of professional experience developing embedded systems using C/C++. Strong understanding of embedded software development principles and practices. Experience with embedded debugging and troubleshooting at both software and system level. Able to communicate technical decisions, progress, risks and blockers clearly. Strong focus on quality, reliability, maintainability and delivery. Approximately 5 years of embedded software engineering experience using C/C++. Experience with Git and collaborative software development workflows. Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or comparable tools.
