Orion Group is working with a successful and well-established Civil Engineering client to source a Civils Project Manager to join their team based in Northern Scotland. As the Civils Project Manager, you will be initially overseeing a large Earthworks project to make way for a new Substation and associated buildings. Applicants can either be based in Glasgow or the Highlands until Q1 2026 and will then be site-based on the Isle of Lewis for the duration of the project.

So, what are we looking for? You will be skilled in the delivery of civil engineering projects, preferably with experience of large Earthworks projects within renewable energy, Power & Transmission, highways, or marine construction, exceeding £10m in value. This will mean you also have a commercial mind-set with a good understanding of commercial contracts (NEC3/4).

To succeed, you'll need excellent communication and analytical skills alongside:

  • HND or Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in civil engineering projects, with proven experience managing large scale Earthworks.
  • Demonstrable Project Management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting and resource management.
  • Be able to implement quality management processes and procedures to ensure that the project is delivered to the required quality, standard and specification.
  • The ability to conduct regular inspections, audits and quality checks to ensure compliance with company procedures and project requirements.

You’ll also need to be able to work at pace as the business moves quickly, and they need to keep up with the demand. So, flexibility, agility, and resilience are key attributes for this role.

Additional skills and experience that would be beneficial:

  • Familiarity with heavy civil construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of MCHW or National Grid specifications.
  • An understanding of the Scottish civil engineering sector.
  • Previous experience working in remote or island locations.

Please note: Due to the nature of the location, a valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel to remote sites is required. All applicants must have valid right to work in the UK as sponsorship isn’t provided.

What’s in it for you? If working for one of Scotland's leading civil engineering contractors, with a diverse portfolio wasn’t enough, they also offer an excellent benefits and reward package to include:

  • Company vehicle.
  • Performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Pension plan with employer contributions.
  • Ongoing professional development support.
  • Accommodation & return flights (when site-based on Stornoway).

If you’re ready for a challenge and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you!

* Accommodation is only provided when the project moves to Site, therefore applicants must be prepared to source their own accommodation if out with Glasgow or Highland Regions.

** Please note that applicants must have the relevant right to work documentation to work in the UK as sponsorship is not offered at this time.
