We\’re looking for a Senior Civils Design Engineer to lead and develop a talented design team in Crewe. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role is ideal for a proactive professional with strong technical expertise and proven experience in rail civil engineering projects.
About the Role:
As Senior Design Engineer, you\’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, compliant, and safe design solutions across rail Civil and Structural. You ll manage the full design lifecycle from feasibility studies through to project close-out while mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continual improvement across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of design projects within time and budget constraints
- Produce and check design documentation including drawings, reports, specifications, and risk assessments
- Undertake site inspections, surveys, and investigations
- Champion compliance with British and European Standards, CDM 2015, and Safe by Design principles
- Act as Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) where required
- Support business development by attending client meetings and representing the company
- Mentor, train, and manage junior members of the team
The ideal candidate:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related subject
- Membership of a relevant professional institution (ICE, IStructE, PWI, etc.)
- Strong understanding of the railway environment and civil engineering design delivery
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing design teams
- Knowledge of relevant safety legislation and standards
- PTS card (or ability to obtain)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
- CAD proficiency and experience with electronic project systems
- Qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH Managing Safely, or First Aid at Work
- BIM awareness or experience
