NEC4 Contracts Manager Option A (Defence / Complex Engineering)

About the Role
We are seeking a time-served NEC4 Supply Contract (Option A) specialist to provide immediate commercial and procedural expertise on a complex defence / engineering supply programme.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role for an experienced NEC4 practitioner who can ensure full compliance, close out live commercial risks, and maintain the strongest possible contractual position.
You will work closely with our project, engineering, and commercial teams to review the signed contract, audit our CEMAR records, and implement strategies fully aligned with NEC4 requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Audit the signed NEC4 Supply Contract (including Z clauses) to confirm obligations, deadlines, and commercial exposure.

Review all SMIs, Early Warnings, and Compensation Events in CEMAR for compliance; flag vulnerabilities and client-side breaches.

Ensure the Not Build to Print / Not Design & Development project is managed in line with NEC4 obligations.

Develop NEC-compliant communication strategies and improve the Activity Schedule for clarity and audit-readiness.

Prepare and negotiate Defined Cost Fee CE quotations, and convert EWs into accepted CEs.

Review programmes for Clause 31.2 compliance, advise on acceptance strategies, and recommend updates.

Support dispute preparation under W2 and advise on any liabilities beyond current scope, including possible termination scenarios.
Essential Experience & Skills

Direct, hands-on experience managing NEC4 Supply Contract (SC) or ECC Option A in defence, manufacturing, or complex engineering supply chains.

NEC4 Project Manager or Practitioner accreditation (ICE) preferred .

Proficiency with CEMAR (or similar) for managing SMIs, EWs, CEs, and Activity Schedule updates.

Strong knowledge of NEC4 Core Clauses, Main & Secondary Options, and Z clauses.

Proven track record preparing and negotiating CE quotations, and advising on programme acceptance.

Experience with W1/W2 dispute resolution processes and leveraging counterparty breaches commercially.
