We are seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer with a strong background in analogue, digital and power supply design. You will play a key role in designing, simulating, and verifying a wide range of circuits for high-speed optical transceiver products used in cutting edge, optical switching networks for power efficient and performance optimised AI/ML applications. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to develop optimal solutions across the product architecture and physical design.
Responsibilities:
- Hardware design of mixed signal circuits to control Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).
- Perform circuit / layout simulations including signal / power integrity analysis.
- Develop and execute test plans for hardware validation, integration and verification.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware integration issues at the board and system levels.
- Documentation and change management of design, build and test specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on hardware architecture decisions.
- Supplier / CEM engagement during hardware design, bring-up and production support.
- Hands on lab work including practical testing and product validation.
Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years of practical experience in design and verification of electronic solutions.
- Schematic capture, analogue / RF simulation and PCB layout.
- Analogue & digital peripherals including high speed DAC / ADC / uC etc…
- Circuit simulation using tools such as LTspice / TINA-TI for DC / transient analysis.
- High speed signal interfaces supporting up to 100Gbps using PAM4 modulation.
- Low noise, high efficiency, footprint optimised power supply design.
- PCB materials, construction and layout including impedance controlled traces.
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical and thermal design considerations.
- Practical debug skills, results analysis and report writing.
- Use of lab test equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, ESA’s etc…
- Ability to understand of complex ideas / concepts and present design solutions to a variety of audiences from multiple backgrounds.
- A humble attitude with good communication skills.
- Degree level qualification (BEng / MEng / PhD) in Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
Experience with some/all of the following would be beneficial:
- Industry standard MSA definitions for pluggable optical transceivers.
- Schematic capture using Siemens PADs Professional.
- Embedded firmware and microcontroller systems debugging.
- Digital control loop theory, design and optimisation.
- Test automation using C# / Python for instrument / DUT control and data analysis.
- Product compliance testing including EMC / safety testing.
- RF measurements using spectrum analysers, VNAs and signal generators.
