Purpose of the Job
- The purpose of the job is to create and deliver design validation plans in relation to powertrain EV machines.
- Resolve failure modes and provide design input in order to ensure components meet product specifications.
- Work in a small team with a high level of autonomy, managing own day to day work load.
Main duties to be carried out
- Definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for the company’s range of electric motors and possibly prototype vehicles.
- The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs.
- Supporting the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data.
- Working closely with test technicians who will execute the tests.
- Driving product development SOPs in line with product quality standards.
- Undertake engineering calculations and design verifications.
- Liaise with external test houses, writing Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents evaluating quotations and arranging for completion of tests to company requirements.
- Analysis of relevant test standards in order to create test plans to attain certification.
- Support and lead where necessary cross function DFMEA reviews at component level.
- Take ownership of tasks.
- Support first off prototype build events.
- Support and contribute to cross functional design review meetings.
- Attend project review meetings and deliver on key milestones.
- Demonstrate a keen desire to learn and develop your skills and engineering knowledge.
Qualifications and Experience required
- Degree in mechanical or automotive engineering OR mechanical design experience within a precision engineering environment.
- Test and calibration experience, ideally in relation to electric machines.
- Environmental test experience, ideally in relation to electric machines.
Skills and Capabilities required
- Experience of the definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for electric motors / complex electromechanical systems.
- The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs.
- Able to support the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data (e.g., motor controller / inverter etc).
- Experience of failure resolution / problem solving using 8D processes or similar.
- Experience with originating Quality and SOP documents for Test Procedures, DVP, 8D, and FMEA.
- Able to work effectively in a fast paced, small company environment in conjunction with test technicians.
- Able to produce test reports, test data and organise DVP activities.
- Able to ensure that Test Requests / Process are understood, achievable and delivered.
