The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered by a physician, with emphasis in specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring mechanical ventilation
- Administering medications
- Conducting patient assessments
- Understanding hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results
- Competently delivering all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual
- Maintaining accurate documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures
- Verifying Respiratory Care physician's orders and updating patient information reflecting current clinical status
- Participating in department meetings and continuous education
- Performing effective airway management and assisting in intubation procedures
- Conducting arterial blood gas draws and monitoring ventilator patients efficiently
- Training and orienting new employees and respiratory/nursing students
- Complying with personal protective equipment requirements for safety
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:
- Must be a graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential
- BLS certification required within 90 days of hire
- NRP certification required within 6 months of hire
- At least one year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting preferred
- Experience in pulmonary diagnostics is preferred
