Job Description

NQ opportunities – Corporate/M&A and Trusts/Private Wealth – located in Jersey

Jersey offers a rare opportunity for lawyers to achieve the best of both worlds – pursuing a top-level legal career in a sophisticated market while enjoying a lifestyle outside of work that major cities simply can’t match. Our client is a global offshore heavyweight with an outstanding reputation in the market, and it has openings for newly qualified lawyers in two of its core practice areas:

Corporate/M&A

Joining one of the strongest corporate teams on the island you will specialise in M&A, advising international clients on the Jersey law elements of major cross-border transactions. This is high-value, complex work, and you will enjoy plenty of responsibility and client contact from the outset, making it ideal for a commercially minded and ambitious Corporate NQ.

Trusts/Private Wealth

This is an opportunity to join a leading team in one of the world's premier markets for offshore trusts and private wealth work. You will work closely with senior colleagues, advising both private clients and associated institutions (trusts companies, wealth managers, family offices) on the full range of non-contentious work as well as contributing on the contentious side as required.

In either role you will enjoy good low-tax earning potential and will be encouraged to develop your skillset and begin building client contacts from day one, making for excellent career prospects. The working culture is friendly and supportive but at the same time highly ambitious, with a real focus on developing commercial as well as technical acumen. Experience gained here will provide an excellent platform for your longer-term career.

Requirements

  • 2025 qualifier with training contract/equivalent from a UK firm.
  • Trained with a good UK/equivalent commercial law firm and have completed seats in at least one practice relevant to the role you are applying for.
  • Good academics (2.1 minimum).
  • Genuine interest in building your career in the offshore sector.

Package

  • Competitive salary, 20% tax.
  • Benefits and excellent bonus scheme.
  • Relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).

Process

  • Interviews will take place by videoconference
  • Start dates negotiable.
  • Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with relocation.

The Channel Islands

For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.

Origin Legal International

Our team has 25 years’ experience of helping lawyers to make international and offshore moves. If you would like to find out more about this role or chat about an overseas move in general, please get in touch.
