The Opportunity

I am seeking an experienced disputes lawyer to join a team handling complex international arbitration matters, with a particular focus on construction and infrastructure disputes.

\n

\n

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take a leading role on significant matters, develop their advocacy and client management skills, and contribute to the development of junior lawyers and the wider practice.

\n

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Assist with and, where appropriate, take a leading role in international arbitrations.
  • \n

  • Manage matters effectively to support optimal utilisation and delivery. Work closely with senior lawyers, acting as lead lawyer where appropriate, and delegate tasks to junior lawyers while providing appropriate guidance and feedback.
  • \n

  • Keep supervisors and wider matter teams informed of progress, identify challenges and provide practical solutions to complex technical and client issues.
  • \n

  • Take responsibility for appropriate aspects of the billing process and contribute to effective financial management of matters.
  • \n

  • Support partners and senior lawyers in advocacy at hearings, while continuing to develop and strengthen your own advocacy skills.
  • \n

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships by anticipating client requirements, understanding expectations and providing timely responses and regular updates.
  • \n

  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across the wider organisation and contribute positively to the team and its culture.
  • \n

  • Support and develop junior lawyers through mentoring, supervision and knowledge sharing.
  • \n

  • Contribute to wider business initiatives, including corporate responsibility, diversity and inclusion activities, internal training and the preparation and maintenance of legal precedents.
  • \n

  • Develop your external profile through engagement with relevant professional bodies and participation in appropriate marketing, networking and industry events.
  • \n

  • Comply with applicable risk management requirements, internal policies, professional obligations and relevant legislation.
  • \n

  • Contribute to engagement, client acceptance and billing processes, as well as the effective management of costs and budgets.
  • \n

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

\n

    \n
  • 6+ years' post-qualification experience is anticipated for the successful candidate, although exceptional candidates with 5+ years' experience will also be considered.
  • \n

  • Strong experience in international arbitration is essential.
  • \n

  • Experience of English High Court proceedings, particularly TCC matters, expert determinations and adjudications, would be desirable.
  • \n

  • Strong subject matter expertise in construction and infrastructure disputes.
  • \n

  • Demonstrable experience of leading factual and expert evidence, including evidence relating to delay, quantum and technical issues.
  • \n

  • Strong legal skills, including drafting, legal analysis and case management.
  • \n

  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • \n

  • A good understanding of law firm profitability and the key drivers of financial efficiency, together with the ability to assist with managing costs and budgets.
