This role offers a unique pathway for an experienced Commercial Property Solicitor to move closer to an in-house position, while still retaining the structure, support and reassurance of private practice. You’ll work alongside a well-established international food and drink business with a substantial UK footprint, supporting a large and active property portfolio of owned and leased assets. The legal requirement is already there — the work is established, the relationship is embedded. From day one, you’ll be working closely with the business, gaining genuine commercial exposure and becoming a trusted advisor to key stakeholders.
How this role is structured:
- Being embedded within the business in Cheshire
- Remaining part of a highly regarded private practice team
Importantly, this is not a secondment or interim measure. There is a clear, realistic long-term plan for the role to transition into a dedicated in-house commercial property position.
Why this opportunity stands out:
- A genuine bridge into in-house, without needing to make a full leap immediately
- Immediate exposure to commercial decision-making and stakeholder interaction
- The chance to step into a well-established, functioning client relationship
- Long-term potential to move into a permanent in-house role
- Ongoing backing from an experienced and supportive private practice team
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll act as the go-to commercial property contact for the business, with responsibility for a large and active multi-site property portfolio, advising on lease negotiations, renewals, rent reviews, and acquisitions to support ongoing growth. The role involves working closely with internal property and operational teams to facilitate new site openings, oversee refurbishments and alterations, and ensure compliance with lease obligations, as well as handling day-to-day landlord matters such as dilapidations, service charges, and covenant issues. The focus is on providing clear, practical and commercially driven advice at pace, often across multiple concurrent matters, while maintaining oversight of key lease data and documentation and instructing external advisers on more complex transactions. Overall, the position is highly embedded within the business, playing a key role in supporting its expansion strategy and operational effectiveness. This is a role where you aren’t just advising — you’re embedded in the process, influencing outcomes, and adding real commercial value.
What this role offers you:
- A move away from purely fee-driven work towards strategic, relationship-led advisory
- Greater visibility and influence over client decisions
- A more integrated, commercially focused way of working
- Security, structure and mentorship while exploring an in-house future
This role would particularly appeal to someone who:
- Has 4+ years’ PQE in Commercial Property
- Is curious about an in-house move, but wants a gradual and credible transition
- Enjoys building long-term relationships with clients
- Is looking for something more strategic than purely transactional work
