We are inviting applications for the role of Occupational Health Nurse based at our Kooragang Island manufacturing site in Newcastle, NSW.

This site-based role is integral to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for our employees and contractors. The successful candidate will deliver professional occupational health services, coordinate rehabilitation and return-to-work programs, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and Orica’s internal health standards.

Working within our dedicated medical centre, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external health professionals, and site leadership to promote wellbeing, manage fitness for work, and respond effectively to workplace health needs. This is a unique opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about proactive health care, injury prevention, and supporting individuals through recovery in a dynamic industrial setting.

What you will be doing

The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for the following:

• Provide immediate medical response to workplace injuries and illnesses
• Assess and manage acute and chronic health conditions
• Liaise with external healthcare professionals
• Conduct pre-employment and periodic health assessments
• Advise on fitness-for-work and workplace health risks
• Coordinate return-to-work programs
• Participate in claim reviews and rehabilitation planning
• Lead drug and alcohol testing
• Manage the site medical centre and first aid resources
• Support emergency response and safety initiatives

What you will bring

Essential Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse (General) with current registration through AHPRA;
• Senior First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation certification;
• Rehabilitation Coordinator accreditation;

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
• Postgraduate qualifications in occupational health or nursing;
• Experience in a manufacturing, mining, or industrial environment;
• Familiarity with NSW Workers Compensation legislation and processes;
• Mental Health First Aid certification;
• Drug and alcohol testing qualifications and experience;
• Minimum of three years’ clinical experience, preferably in occupational health.
