Position Summary
The Director of PMO will spearhead the creation and maturation of OrganOx's central Project Management Office (PMO), establishing the frameworks, governance and culture required to deliver complex, high‑impact organisational initiatives. The role provides strategic leadership and vision for how projects are prioritised, governed and executed across the organisation, while ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and enabling sustainable growth. This role is key to developing the PMO capability of the organisation to deliver successful outcomes through effective project management, teamwork and a shared commitment that enables OrganOx continued growth and success.
The role includes leading and developing a team of project and programme managers, cultivating an inclusive, high‑performance environment and ensuring project management resources are optimally deployed to meet business priorities. Acting as a trusted partner to Senior Leaders, the Director of PMO will embed a project‑oriented mindset, elevate execution capability and drive accountability through a consistent operating model, robust governance and empowered teams. They will oversee the design, set‑up and continuous improvement of the PMO, including governance bodies such as the Project Review Committee, to ensure transparency, evidence‑based decision‑making, and effective risk escalation.
As the organisation's authority on project portfolio oversight, the Director of PMO will introduce standardised processes, toolkits and reporting mechanisms, providing the Board and senior stakeholders, with clear insights into the health, performance and risks of strategic projects. This is a pivotal leadership position for a seasoned project delivery expert with deep experience in medical device or pharmaceutical environments, strong cross‑functional influence, commercial acumen and exceptional stakeholder credibility. This is an on-site role in Oxford, with flexibility.
Major Responsibilities
- Under direction from the Chief Technology Officer the Director, PMO will be responsible for:
- The design and set-up of a project management office, establishing the PMO as a central function within OrganOx. This will include the development and deployment of a project management methodology and toolkit.
- The ongoing management and continuous improvement of the PMO, ensuring that OrganOx has the project management capabilities to deliver large complex projects across our internal operations and strategic implementation.
- The provision of project/program management training or advice to colleagues across OrganOx.
- The design and implementation of project management governance structures to ensure consistency of approach and current best practice in project management is utilised.
- Building collaborative relationships and senior stakeholders by fostering confidence, followship and trust, facilitating evidence-based decision-making and holding stakeholders accountable for the deliverables, escalating risks as necessary.
- The review of resource loading plans with Functional Directors, determining mitigation actions in the event of resource constraints.
- The provision of project portfolio summaries for presentation to the Senior Leadership Team, with clear professional communications and assured expectation management.
- The leadership and line management of a team of project/program managers, focusing on growth and fostering a collaborative, high performance team environment. This includes coaching and mentoring the team to align with values, vision and goals of OrganOx.
- The resource planning and deployment of project/program managers to projects, working closely with colleagues across OrganOx to understand need for project management support.
- Adhere to the letter and spirit of OrganOx's Code of Conduct and all other company policies.
Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Significant direct project management experience in Medical Device or Pharmaceutical Industries or equivalent.
- A proven track record in managing medical device design and development projects, working within ISO 13485, EN 60601, and risk management processes of ISO 14971.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, commercially astute with the ability to negotiate with suppliers and multi-functional internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility with senior stakeholders, with excellent influencing skills to drive collaboration and accountability across teams.
- Good working knowledge of standard office, project management and engineering software.
- Excellent financial management skills with experience managing multiple project budgets simultaneously.
- Experience in the management of teams remotely through appropriate collaboration platforms and project management systems.
- Shows commitment to own professional development; demonstrates enthusiasm, willingness and ability to learn new skills. Creates momentum and excitement around initiatives and new approaches.
- Proven ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment, ensuring that multiple teams can focus on their key deliverables.
- Proven experience in the development and commercial launch of complex medical devices to the US and OUS markets.

Qualifications
- A BEng or MEng degree in a related Engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- Formal project management training from a recognized accreditation body, such as PMP or alternatively demonstratable experience.
