ABOUT ORGANOX

Organ Ox is a commercial stage organ technology company dedicated to developing technologies to improve outcomes for patients with acute or chronic organ failure.

The company was established as a spin out of the University of Oxford in 2008 and is now part of the Terumo Group.

Organ Ox is a pioneer in normothermic machine perfusion (NMP).

Its flagship platform, the metra®, is available for use in the U.

S., Europe, Canada, and Australia.

It has been utilized in over 7,000 liver transplants to date to keep donor livers in a metabolically active state outside the body enabling longer preservation times and functional assessment of the organ prior to transplant, leading to an increased number of organs available for transplant.

Position Summary

The Senior Electronics Design Engineer will take a leading role in the design, development, and verification of electronic systems for Organ Ox medical devices.

This role combines hands‑on electronics design with technical ownership of subsystems, supporting architectural decisions and mentoring less‑experienced engineers.

This is an on‑site role in Oxford with flexibility, combining on‑site collaboration with remote design work to ensure close interaction with cross‑functional engineering, quality, and regulatory teams.

  • Major Responsibilities
  • Owning the design and development of electronic subsystems from concept through to manufacturing handover.
  • Designing analogue, digital, and mixed‑signal circuits with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Producing and reviewing schematics and PCB layouts, ideally using Altium Designer.
  • Supporting electronic architecture decisions in collaboration with the Principal Electronics Engineer, Software engineering and systems engineering.
  • Performing component selection, design calculations, and risk assessments in line with IEC 60601 and ISO 14971.
  • Leading electronics design verification activities, including functional testing, EMC pre‑compliance, and safety‑related testing.
  • Supporting debugging and root‑cause analysis during prototype development and verification.
  • Preparing and maintaining high‑quality technical documentation suitable for regulated medical device development.
  • Supporting transfer to manufacturing, including engagement with suppliers and CMOs.
  • Providing technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior electronics engineers.
  • Participating actively in design reviews and contributing to continuous product improvement.
  • Adhere to the letter and spirit of Organ Ox's Code of Conduct and all other company policies.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in analogue and digital electronics design for complex products.
  • Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical devices, is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of electronic subsystems and deliver them to production.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout; experience with Altium Designer is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of EMC/EMI mitigation techniques and design‑for‑manufacture principles.
  • Hands‑on experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers).
  • Working knowledge of medical device standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971).
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions and trade‑offs.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (up to 10%).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 7–10 years of relevant industry experience in electronics design.
