Full Time Perm contract: Start immediate. Salary: £28,500 (depending on experience). Days: Monday to Friday 8am-4.30pm. Responsible to: Wild Farm Head Grower. This position does not come with accommodation.

The assistant grower will demonstrate the skills required to assist in all areas of the production of vegetables, fruit and flowers at Wild Farm for our family of restaurants and cafes.

Production:

  • Propagating and maintaining plants from seed
  • Planting and maintaining glasshouse and polytunnel crops, field vegetables and fruit
  • Chicken husbandry
  • Nature friendly weed, pest and disease management
  • Compost management
  • Cultivating soil using hand techniques
  • Harvesting at pace to a high quality
  • Assisting with record keeping including harvest, planting and crop plan records

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum 1 years experience working in a market garden or food growing enterprise
  • A passion for food and growing
  • Happy to work on physically demanding tasks, outdoors and in all weathers
  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative, prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
  • Good natured and even tempered to be able to work in a small team and independently
  • Ability to supervise and explain tasks to volunteers if needed
  • Ability to contribute to good record keeping
  • Reliable, punctual and robust in nature and approach

Desirable:

  • Clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle as some work may be carried out at cafe gardens
  • Experience with small power tools and tractor
