Position Type: Full time, salaried - About Orennia
Orennia provides an all-in-one platform for accurate data, predictive analytics and actionable insights across the energy transition.
We drive faster capital allocation decisions and help our clients maximise returns across the solar, wind, storage, power, clean fuels and hydrogen sectors.
The technology that powers Orennia’s platform delivers an unparalleled experience, distilling information into actionable insights to give our clients a competitive edge.
Britain is rebuilding its electricity system.
The 2021–22 gas price crisis showed how exposed homes and businesses are to volatile global fossil fuel markets, and the government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan aims for clean sources to produce at least 95% of Great Britain’s electricity by 2030, backed by an estimated £40 billion of investment a year.
Increasingly, the grid sets the pace: connection queues, network build-out and rising constraint and curtailment costs will decide which projects get built and what they earn.
Without accurate data and predictive analytics, developers and investors will struggle to deploy capital efficiently and maximise returns.
Orennia’s platform gives them robust information for smarter capital allocation choices.
Why Join Orennia?
People are at the heart of the best technology companies.
We’ve brought together some of the industry’s top experts and brightest minds in data orchestration, analytics, software development, and industry insights to uncover opportunities where others can’t.
At Orennia, you’ll become part of a collaborative culture and do work that matters.
We trust and support each other, ask hard questions and solve complex problems together.
Guided by a spirit of inquiry, our team has a product-driven, continuous delivery mindset to drive our innovation forward.
The Opportunity
As Vice President, Grid & Transmission, you will play a central role in building Orennia’s UK grid and transmission analytics from the ground up, owning our view of how power flows across Great Britain’s network: where it is constrained, how much renewable output will be curtailed, and how policy and regulatory reform will change that picture.
You will work directly with senior clients and internal leadership to turn that analysis into decisions on where to build, what to buy, and how assets will earn, driving commercial growth and establishing Orennia as a trusted partner in the energy transition.
This role combines deep technical expertise in power systems with market leadership, offering the opportunity to influence product development, expand our client base, and build a high-performing team while Great Britain’s grid is transformed.
Our people are passionate and have a strong belief in our mission.
Our efforts impact individuals and communities, all the while working toward a net-zero future.
If you’re hungry for opportunity, growth, and something meaningful in a dynamic, fun and challenging environment, we’d love to hear from you.
- What You’ll Do
- Lead the development of Orennia’s power flow and network models for Great Britain, representing the transmission system, boundary capabilities, and planned reinforcements to assess congestion and constraints.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships in the UK, acting as a trusted advisor on complex strategic questions such as site selection, grid connection strategy, asset valuation, and curtailment risk.
- Support business development efforts in the UK, including leading client meetings, contributing to proposals, and identifying new commercial opportunities.
- Represent Orennia in the UK market through industry events, conferences, and thought leadership on grid and transmission topics.
- Own Orennia’s curtailment and constraint forecasts for wind, solar, and storage assets at site, zone, and boundary level, including the impact on project revenues and balancing costs.
- Lead policy and regulatory analysis of UK grid and market reform, including connections reform, the Strategic Spatial Energy Plan, network investment and price controls, transmission charging (TNUo S), and wholesale market reform, translating each development into quantified client impacts.
- Track the GB connections queue and network build-out, assessing which projects are likely to connect, when, and on what terms.
- Integrate network constraints and curtailment into Orennia’s fundamental power market and price forecasts, working closely with the UK power markets team.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to guide the development of scalable network datasets, models, and analytical tools tailored to the UK market, with future extensibility to Europe.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a growing UK grid and transmission team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
Who You Are
- 5–10 years of experience in power systems, transmission planning, or energy analytics, with a strong focus on the GB electricity network.
- Deep understanding of how the GB transmission system works, including power flow, boundary constraints, network planning, and how constraints are managed and paid for through the Balancing Mechanism.
- Hands-on experience with power flow or network modelling tools (e. g., PSS/E, Power Factory, PLEXOS, Py PSA, or similar) and with curtailment or constraint cost forecasting.
- Strong grasp of UK energy policy and regulation affecting the grid, including connections reform, network charging, Ofgem price controls, and the roles of NESO, the transmission owners, and DNOs.
- Experience with interconnectors and cross-border flows with European markets is a strong plus.
- Demonstrated experience applying analytical models to real-world commercial or investment decisions.
- Strong technical foundation in Python and SQL, with experience handling large network and time-series datasets.
- Proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders and translate complex analysis into clear, decision-ready insights.
- Experience contributing to or leading commercial initiatives, including client development and revenue growth.
- Track record of leadership, including mentoring junior team members or managing small teams.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, economics, or a related quantitative field; advanced degree is a plus.
