We're excited to share an opportunity for an experienced and motivated finance professional to join Ordnance Survey as our Senior Management Accountant. This is a pivotal leadership role within Central Finance, responsible for leading the management accounting and reporting team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality monthly and quarterly reporting. The role offers an excellent opportunity to shape and improve financial processes, drive continuous improvement and automation, and play a key part in delivering a modern, high-performing finance function.

Working closely with Finance Business Partners, Technical Finance, FP&A and Finance Operations, you'll provide leadership across the financial close process while helping to ensure that financial information and insight support effective decision-making across OS.

About the role

As Senior Management Accountant, you'll lead and develop a team of management accountants and finance professionals, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

You'll be accountable for the integrity of management reporting, the effective operation of financial controls and reconciliations, and the successful delivery of monthly and quarterly close processes. Beyond reporting, you'll be expected to identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate finance processes, helping to build greater efficiency, control and insight across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Development
    Lead and develop the Management Accounts team by creating a high-performing, inclusive and accountable culture that delivers high-quality outcomes. You'll provide clear direction and priorities, support professional growth through coaching and development, and build team resilience through effective succession planning, cross-training and knowledge sharing

  • Management Accounting and Reporting:
    Take ownership of the monthly and quarterly reporting cycle, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely and insightful management information. You'll oversee the preparation and review of management accounts, manage reporting deadlines and dependencies, lead financial performance reviews, and maintain oversight of all core management accounting activities to ensure robust financial control and reporting integrity.

  • Financial Controls and Governance:
    Ensure strong governance, control and compliance across all management accounting processes. You'll oversee balance sheet reconciliations and close assurance activities, maintain adherence to accounting policies and finance standards, and proactively identify and address reporting risks and control weaknesses to safeguard the quality and accuracy of financial information.

  • Continuous Improvement and Transformation:
    Drive continuous improvement across the Management Accounts function by simplifying, standardising and automating processes. Working closely with finance and technology teams, you'll lead initiatives that enhance efficiency, reporting quality and insight, while developing and delivering a roadmap that strengthens systems, processes and ways of working.

  • Stakeholder Management:
    Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider business, acting as a trusted source of financial expertise and insight. You'll understand the business performance and be able to link this understanding to the financial outcomes. You will be able to communicate complex financial information clearly, and support decision-making through high-quality reporting and explanations.

About You

  • Has a recognised accountancy qualification (preferably CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Has significant experience leading sizeable finance teams
  • Has experience working in complex businesses and reporting environments
  • Brings a strong record of driving continuous improvement, automation and change within finance
  • Is an inspiring leader, committed to developing people and fostering collaboration within the team and across the wider business, whilst being passionate about delivering high standards
