Cartographer – Full time 12-month Fixed Term Contract (maternity cover)- Salary £31,471 – Hybrid working

Join our dynamic Boundaries team

We edit and manage the UK’s ever-changing electoral and administrative boundaries, always seeking innovative ways to create better data and more efficient processes.

About the role

You will join a team of six working with boundaries within a larger team of 12. We strive to cross-skill within and between teams to ensure variety and challenge in each role.

The boundaries team is currently preparing data for the new Welsh and Scottish constituencies, and for the ongoing changes triggered by devolution. Your role will primarily be to edit boundary alignments, and quality control boundary data. You will also be involved in continuous improvement processes, documentation and ad hoc tasks.

All necessary training to work with boundaries will be provided, but we do expect some experience of editing using GIS software and good computer literacy in general.

This role is full time 12-month Fixed Term Contract (maternity cover).

What we’re looking for

  • Good attention to detail; able to consistently produce high quality work against an established set of rules and guidelines

  • Ability to understand and interpret maps and mapping, familiarity with ArcGIS (or similar)

  • Planning, scheduling, and monitoring personal production to effectively contribute to individual and team targets

  • Identifying, communicating, and implementing technical and process improvements to increase personal and team performance

  • Displaying positive behaviours when working with others and creating a professional and trusting relationship with a wide range of people

  • Good level of communication, both verbal and written

  • Positive attitude even when under pressure, with proven track record of meeting deadlines

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be based and required to work from at least 1-2 days a week after the initial six week training and integration period, during which time you will be required to work at OSHQ Monday -Thursday.
