This role is based within our Data Sourcing team. We are an agile team of nine that supports a wide range of testing activities. Our team's main project is to deliver new software to migrate our systems into a cloud-based architecture. Ordnance Survey has a testing community of 70+ test professionals that support each other with regular sessions on test related topics, tools, and techniques.

About the role:

  • Are you a highly analytical person who enjoys breaking down technical challenges to build frameworks that can monitor and improve the reliability of solutions? We are currently looking to recruit a Test Engineer to join our Technology team to support our test efforts.
  • Develop automation that supports the next generation of systems, driving our world-leading geospatial and business applications.
  • Work within an agile delivery team and other test professionals.
  • Conduct manual testing of release items.
  • Shape, create and maintain both back and front-end CI/CD test automation infrastructures.
  • Provide regular updates to the domain Leadership to communicate software risks & test outcomes.
  • Provide support for wider test automation challenges.
  • Support the Ordnance Survey Testing Community, with common standards such as metrics and use of test tools.

Here is a snapshot of the technologies that we use: Python, Behave, Azure, Esri ArcGIS, FME, Postman, C#, JavaScript, SQL.

What we're looking for:

  • Proficiency in Python, although other languages will be considered (e.g. C#, JavaScript).
  • Confident with both back-end and front-end automation processes.
  • Experience with building and maintaining BDD frameworks (e.g. Python/Behave).
  • Good knowledge of software development lifecycles (e.g. Waterfall, Agile).
  • Good knowledge of testing techniques and the use of appropriate test tools.
  • Capable knowledge and experience with implementing test automation into pipelines (e.g. working with YAML in Azure DevOps).
  • Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Awareness of geospatial systems, data, and technologies.
  • API test automation experience.
  • Experience with JMeter, or similar performance applications.
  • Testing with Azure Cloud and good knowledge of the Azure Portal or Azure DevOps (or similar).
  • Qualified to Foundation Level in Software Testing (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with security test automation and testing techniques.
  • Experience with ETL testing.
  • Experience working in an operational support capacity for a production system.
  • Prior experience in mentoring and teaching automation skills to others.

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be based and required to spend approximately one day a month at OSHQ.
