About the Role

Orchard Recruitment is working on behalf of a well-established and growing construction business to recruit an experienced and proactive Plant Fitter to join their Fleet team based in Wakefield. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and supporting a wide range of plant equipment across multiple sites in the Yorkshire and North East region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repairs
    • Carry out scheduled servicing based on operating hours
    • Diagnose faults and undertake repairs on a range of equipment including excavators, diggers, cranes, mowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters
    • Perform safety checks and inspections on plant machinery and tools
    • Maintain accurate service and repair records
  • Workshop & On-Site Support
    • Assist with loading and unloading of plant equipment
    • Attend sites to carry out maintenance and repairs as required
    • Complete sign-off documentation and provide photographic evidence of completed work
    • Maintain a clean, compliant, and organised workshop environment
  • Inventory & Logistics
    • Order parts and liaise with suppliers
    • Identify equipment for disposal or quarantine
    • Prepare plant machinery for hire or resale
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Follow all Health, Safety and Environmental procedures
    • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents
    • Ensure correct PPE is worn at all times
    • Maintain high standards of housekeeping

Requirements

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 4 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Valid CSCS Plant Operator card
  • Full UK driving licence (maximum 3 penalty points)
  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing plant and small equipment
  • Good IT skills

Desirable:

  • Forklift licence
  • IRTEC Category F Licence
  • Small engine repair qualification
  • Crane Supervisor, MEWP or Banksman certifications

  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management
  • Strong communication skills
  • Flexible, reliable, and team-oriented
