We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to join our clients Highways & Civil Engineering team across the Yorkshire region. You will be responsible for on-site management and delivery of highways, public roads and associated civil engineering works across Yorkshire and regional contracts, primarily within the public sector. The successful candidate will be a hands‑on leader with a strong background in highways construction, civils programmes, stakeholder engagement and health & safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day on‑site management of highways/civil engineering projects, ensuring safe, high‑quality delivery on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, plant and operatives, ensuring productive and compliant site activity.
- Plan, supervise and coordinate all aspects of highway works including earthworks, drainage, road resurfacing, kerbing, traffic management and utilities interface.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, technical drawings, contractual requirements and statutory regulations.
- Maintain strong relationships with client representatives, local authorities, and statutory bodies on public sector highways schemes.
- Implement and enforce Britcon’s robust health, safety, environmental and quality standards on every project site.
- Proactively identify and resolve site issues, risks and constraints to minimise delays and control cost impacts.
- Manage submittals, site reporting, daily logs, method statements, risk assessments and programme updates.
- Mentor, develop and support site teams to foster a collaborative, performance‑driven culture.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Extensive experience in highways and civil engineering site management, ideally within public sector frameworks.
- Proven track record of delivering highways, roadworks and infrastructure projects to a high standard.
- Strong leadership and site leadership skills with ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Sound understanding of CDM regulations, health & safety protocols, quality and environmental standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and construction programmes.
- Excellent communicator with strong stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally to multiple sites.
Desirable Attributes
- SMSTS/SSSTS or equivalent health & safety qualifications.
- Degree or relevant diploma in civil engineering or construction management.
- Experience working on local authority frameworks or public sector highways contracts.
- CITB/industry‑related certification.
