Orchard is a 36 place family run business, that has been in our family since 1999. We’re a friendly bunch, who believe in a child centred approach to early years care and offer a home from home environment. We’re located just a short walk from Penarth town centre and are open Monay – Friday 7:30-6pm. We’re registered to take children from 6 weeks to 5 years, although our youngest baby is currently a year.
Who you’ll be working for?
I’m Meg the soon to be owner of Orchard Day nursery in Penarth. I’m a new(ish) mum and believe passionately that children thrive in an environment that is warm, welcoming and fun. I’m a massive foody, and nutrition is really important to me -I’m big on feeding your microbiome with the best variety you can. I also believe that as a business in Penarth we have a duty to support other business within our community.
What we’re looking for?
We’re looking for a Cook/ House Keeper to join our brilliant team at Orchard. Your role will be to provide nutritious home cooked meals for our children, taking into account dietary requirements, five days a week. You’ll need to be able to manage the kitchen entirely, including stock, menu planning, washing up, and kitchen and dinning room clean down at the end of lunch. A deep clean of the kitchen will need to be performed every Friday. You’ll also need to prep a simple but nutritious morning snack and tea. Very high standards of kitchen cleanliness are essential, and you’ll be required to obtain a Food Hygiene Certificate to level 2 if you don’t already have one (the nursery will arrange it). Once the cooking is over, it’s an hour of light house keeping - including high level dusting and generally casting your eye over the building to see what needs doing.

- You’re someone with a roll up your sleeves, can do attitude, and a team player that also enjoys working alone.
- You’re not necessarily a cook by trade, but you’re passionate about cooking and nutrition, and super organised.
- You’re high energy and enjoy looking after people.
Key information
- Working hours – 9:30 – 3pm Monday – Friday
- Pay – £12.75 + Depending on experience
- An Enhanced DBS will be obtained before you start with us along with two references, one from your most recent employer.
