About the role: We're looking for an experienced Mid-Level Full Stack Developer to join our engineering team and play a significant role in the design, development, and delivery of our products. This role is ideal for someone at the upper end of mid-level, with strong commercial experience across both frontend and backend development who is ready to take real ownership of their work. You will deliver features end to end with minimal supervision, contribute to technical and design decisions, and help raise standards across the team. The role combines hands-on development with a growing influence on how we build software. A key part of this role is the effective use of modern development tools, including AI, to improve productivity and deliver work efficiently.

Key duties:

  • Take ownership of features end to end, across both frontend and backend
  • Design and implement solutions to well-defined problems with minimal supervision
  • Lead the delivery of medium-sized pieces of work from scoping through to release
  • Diagnose and fix complex bugs and improve performance, reliability, and maintainability across the stack
  • Contribute to technical design discussions and decisions
  • Review code from other developers and provide constructive feedback
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and help raise team standards
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development, troubleshooting, and delivery
  • Identify and drive improvements to internal processes and tooling

Use of AI and tooling: This role is expected to actively make use of AI as part of day-to-day development, including:

  • Using AI tools to accelerate development and problem solving
  • Writing, refining, and critically reviewing AI-assisted code
  • Using AI to support debugging and to navigate unfamiliar areas of the system
  • Improving efficiency on routine tasks and helping establish good AI practices within the team

We are looking for someone who is confident adopting new tools, can evaluate AI output critically, and uses these tools responsibly as part of a professional workflow.

About you:

Skills and experience:

Essential:

  • 4-6 years' experience in software development, with substantial commercial full stack experience
  • Strong experience building user interfaces using modern web technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React or similar)
  • Strong experience with backend development, APIs, and server-side logic (e.g. .NET, Node.js or similar)
  • A track record of delivering features independently, end to end
  • Solid understanding of API design and integration
  • Confident with version control and collaborative workflows (e.g. Git, pull requests, code review)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and sound technical judgement
  • Confident, responsible use of AI tools as part of development work

Desirable:

  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern deployment approaches (e.g. Azure, AWS, CI/CD)
  • Experience with automated testing and quality practices
  • Awareness of performance, security, and accessibility considerations
  • Extensive use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT)

Personal qualities:

  • Self-directed, proactive, and takes ownership of outcomes
  • Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Comfortable working independently and leading work within a team
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement
  • Pragmatic and solution-focused, balancing quality with delivery

Why join us:

  • Genuine ownership of features across a full stack environment
  • Influence over technical decisions, tooling, and team practices
  • Experience using AI tools at the forefront of professional development practice
  • A clear path to progress into a senior role

How to prepare for a job interview at Orcha

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Orcha uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
