The Role:

As a Draftsperson at ORCA, you will play a key role in supporting engineering and project teams by producing accurate technical drawings, models, and documentation for diving systems, offshore equipment, and bespoke engineering projects. You will contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D engineering drawings and models using CAD software in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Generate fabrication, assembly, installation, and general arrangement drawings from engineering concepts and calculations.
  • Develop and maintain drawing registers, revision control, and technical documentation packages.
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, workshop personnel, and clients to ensure designs are practical, accurate, and fit for purpose.
  • Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and support procurement activities where required.
  • Modify and update existing drawings to reflect design changes, project requirements, and as-built information.
  • Assist with design reviews and ensure drawings comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and client specifications.
  • Support engineering calculations, design verification, and technical documentation preparation as required.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical drafting support throughout project execution.
  • Liaise with fabrication and workshop teams to resolve drawing queries and improve manufacturability.
  • Ensure all documentation is maintained within the company's document control and quality management systems.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in drafting standards, processes, and workflows.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Engineering Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Draftsperson, CAD Technician, Design Technician, or similar role.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, fabrication methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience producing detailed fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience within offshore, subsea, marine, oil and gas, or heavy engineering sectors would be advantageous.
