Orbital Marine Power is a visionary Scottish renewable energy company focused on the global application of its pioneering floating turbine technology that can supply predictable power from tidal streams and ocean currents, every day, regardless of the weather. The technology has already been proven at full scale, with the company operating the world's most powerful tidal turbine since July 2021. This provides invaluable operational insight while clearly demonstrating the technology's commercial viability. With global interest in tidal energy accelerating, Orbital is expanding its team to support larger scale manufacture, multi turbine delivery and the next stage of commercial growth.
What this role is about
You will be involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems that support Orbital's tidal turbines and associated infrastructure. This role is suited to someone who enjoys hands on engineering, clear technical problem solving and collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines.
What you will be doing:
- Design electrical systems for tidal turbine and balance-of-plant applications including: LV and HV distribution, generators, transformers, switchgear and auxiliary systems.
- Produce and maintain electrical documentation including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and equipment datasheets.
- Assist with grid interface and power systems engineering activities.
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning and energisation work.
- Review supplier documentation and contribute to technical procurement.
- Participate in engineering risk assessments, design reviews and safety studies.
- Provide engineering support during installation and operational phases.
What you will bring:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Two or more years of experience in electrical engineering within renewable energy, power generation or marine environments.
- Working knowledge of LV systems and electrical protection, earthing and distribution.
- Ability to produce and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of EPLAN or similar.
- Aware of electrical safety systems and a safety conscious approach.
- Experience in marine renewables (desirable).
- Knowledge of power electronics, SCADA, subsea cables (desirable).
- Working towards Chartership (desirable).
