Who are we? Orbital has innovated within the gas industry since our inception in 1984, developing technologies and solutions used throughout the UK gas industry still utilised in today’s national infrastructure. Our next chapter under nZero ownership is to aid in the gas industry's transition to net zero, and we are looking for passionate, capable people to join our team.
What is the role? As a Digital Technology Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in reshaping the landscape of the gas sector while advancing your own professional journey. This brand new department is at the forefront of driving change in the operational technology space.
Responsibilities
- Aid in development of the latest technology, standards, and best practice into nZeros OT equipment.
- Carry out cyber security threat assessments in line with IEC 62443 or equivalent.
- Complete asset vulnerabilities identification activities.
- Research and understand the latest advancements in IT and network technologies.
- Complete R&D activities aligned to the Digital Technology Division's 4 key Market Areas: OT Cyber Security, Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics.
Requirements
- Have a minimum of at least 5 years’ experience within the IT and Software Operational Technology market.
- Familiarity with high-level programming language/s (like Python, NodeJS).
- Familiarity with IEC61131 programming languages.
- Familiarity with PLC programming IDEs such as RSLogix 5000, GX Developer, Codesys and TIA Portal.
- Familiarity with databases such as SQL.
- Familiarity with database integration for web services.
- Understanding of IoT devices protocols such as MQTT, AMQP, CoAP, etc.
- Familiarity with client-server architecture.

Pay
The salary banding for this role is £40,000 – £50,000 and is based on an applicant’s skills, training, and competence. Attractive benefits package including:
