The purpose of this role is to develop, procure, mobilise and manage Orbit’s National Fleet operation, ensuring vehicles are safe, compliant, cost-effective, professionally presented and fit for purpose. This role is part of Property where you'll help us to lead the way investing and maintaining 46,000 homes.
What you'll achieve
- The postholder will establish a scalable fleet model capable of supporting an initial fleet of approximately 150 vehicles, with potential growth to 500+ vehicles as Orbit expands its in-house service delivery and operational footprint.
- Develop and implement Orbit’s fleet strategy to support operational delivery, service expansion and future in-house growth.
- Create a scalable fleet management model capable of supporting approximately 150 vehicles initially and potential future growth to 500+ vehicles.
- Act as the organisational lead and responsible officer for fleet management issues across operational vehicles leased for business use.
- Develop, deliver and regularly review the Fleet Management Procedure, ensuring it remains aligned with legislation, best practice and Orbit policy requirements.
- Support the procurement and mobilisation of the new fleet provision, including leased vehicles, contract mobilisation and ongoing supplier management.
- Manage fleet re-procurement and vehicle replacement programmes, ensuring procurement activity complies with Group Standing Orders and delivers value for money.
- Manage vehicle livery requirements, ensuring all fleet vehicles are professionally presented and aligned to Orbit brand standards.
- Ensure all fleet operations comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, internal policies, health and safety requirements and best practice.
- Maintain robust compliance controls for MOTs, servicing, inspections, vehicle taxation, insurance, defect reporting, recalls, driver packs, operator requirements where applicable and vehicle documentation.
What you'll bring
- Proven experience managing a medium to large vehicle fleet in a complex operational environment.
- Experience procuring, mobilising and managing leased fleet arrangements and fleet supplier contracts.
- Strong knowledge of fleet compliance, road risk, vehicle servicing, MOT, license checking, insurance and health and safety requirements.
- Experience in managing telematics, driver behaviour monitoring and driver safety improvement programmes.
- Ability to analyse complex fleet data and produce clear management information, trend analysis and improvement plans.
- Ability to travel to meet the requirements of the role.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Association of Fleet Professionals membership or relevant fleet management qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience managing electric vehicle transition or low-emission fleet programmes.
- Experience within housing, property services, local authority, facilities management, construction or in-house delivery environments.
