Due to the continued expansion of Birchwood School, we are delighted to be recruiting an additional Secondary Teacher with a specialist subject to teach up to GCSE level. About the Role
As a Secondary Teacher at Birchwood School, you will deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in your specialist subject area up to GCSE level. You will tailor learning to each pupil’s individual needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and achieve meaningful progress. You’ll work closely with learning support assistants, therapists, care staff and families to create a positive, inclusive classroom where pupils can thrive academically, emotionally and socially.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering high‑quality lessons in your specialist subject up to GCSE level
- Adapting teaching to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities
- Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment
- Using positive behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
- Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and parents/carers
- Supporting pupils’ wellbeing, including personal care where required
- Promoting safeguarding, equality and inclusion at all times
What We’re Looking For
- GCSEs (A*–C or equivalent), including English and Maths
- Strong subject knowledge in your specialist area
- A child‑centred approach and passion for inclusive education
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to support complex needs
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching at secondary level, ideally up to GCSE
- Experience working with pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs
- Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team
- A creative, flexible and reflective approach to teaching and learning
