About The Role

Join Birchwood School During an Exciting Period of Growth. Due to the continued expansion of Birchwood School, we are delighted to be recruiting an additional Teacher to join our dedicated team in Cardiff. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a growing specialist school where your role will directly support the development of new provision and positively impact more pupils than ever before.

Birchwood School, part of Orbis Education & Care, supports children and young people with Autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, and complex barriers to learning. Our nurturing, therapeutic environment enables pupils to feel safe, understood and empowered to succeed — and our staff are central to making that happen.

As a Teacher at Birchwood School, you will deliver engaging, personalised learning experiences tailored to each pupil’s individual needs. You’ll work closely with learning support assistants, therapists, care staff and families to create a positive, inclusive classroom where pupils can thrive academically, emotionally and socially.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering differentiated lessons aligned to individual learning needs
  • Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and parents/carers
  • Supporting pupils’ wellbeing, including personal care where required
  • Promoting safeguarding, equality and inclusion at all times

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • GCSEs (A*–C or equivalent), including English and Maths
  • A child-centred approach and passion for inclusive education
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to support complex needs
  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience working with pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs
  • Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team
  • A creative, flexible and reflective approach to teaching and learning
