Become the Site Caretaker Who Helps Birchwood School Shine Birchwood School is looking for a dedicated and hands-on Site Caretaker to help create an environment where children and young people with complex needs can feel safe, supported, and inspired every day. If you take pride in practical work, enjoy keeping spaces looking their best, and want every day to feel meaningful, this role could be perfect for you. What You\'ll Be Doing As our Site Caretaker, you will play a key role in keeping Birchwood School running smoothly. Your days will be varied, active, and essential to ensuring our pupils and staff have a safe and welcoming place to learn. Your responsibilities will include: General Maintenance

  • Carrying out daily repairs and planned maintenance
  • Completing essential health and safety checks
  • Inspecting heating, lighting, and alarm systems
  • Supporting cleaning tasks when needed
  • Grounds & Presentation
  • Gardening, landscaping, and keeping outdoor spaces tidy
  • Painting, decorating, and improving site appearance
  • Managing tools, equipment, and materials
  • Site Security
  • Opening and closing the school each day
  • Performing regular security checks
  • Supporting traffic flow on site
  • Working with contractors, overseeing site inductions, and supervising when required
  • Vehicle Support
  • Carrying out basic checks and cleaning of school vehicles
    We\'re looking for someone practical, reliable, and confident in a busy school setting. Ideally, you\'ll have:
  • GCSEs/NVQs/SVQs (or equivalent)
  • Experience with basic repairs, maintenance, or caretaking
  • Clear communication and great organisation
  • The ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure
  • A basic understanding of health and safety (training available)
  • Confidence travelling locally using school vehicles
    Qualifications in construction, engineering, or IOSH are an advantage but not a requirement.
