The Role
As a Site Caretaker, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the site, maintaining the school grounds, and supporting a safe environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. You will carry out daily maintenance tasks, conduct health and safety checks, and ensure the building is safe and secure. This is an important role that supports the wider team and plays a key part in creating an environment where pupils can thrive.
What a Day Looks Like As a Site Caretaker
- Performing daily maintenance tasks and general grounds work
- Ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the site, including basic cleaning when necessary
- Conducting routine health and safety checks and addressing issues promptly
- Performing basic repairs and liaising with the estates team for larger tasks
- Monitoring site security and ensuring all areas are safe for entry and exit
- Managing site stock levels for cleaning materials, tools, and furniture
- Opening and closing the building, securing windows and doors
- Coordinating school traffic and liaising with external contractors when required
- Supervising or assisting with gardening and landscape duties
- Assisting with vehicle maintenance alongside the school driver
We’re Looking For People Who Are
- Practical, reliable, and have a strong work ethic
- Able to carry out basic maintenance and repairs around the site
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Communicative, with the ability to report issues and liaise with colleagues
- Knowledgeable or willing to learn about health and safety regulations
- Willing to work in other school sites as needed
- Previous experience in a caretaking or maintenance role is an advantage
- A flexible approach to work, with the ability to handle varied tasks
- Flexible with their annual leave and able to take their annual leave in non-term time only
Please note: This job role involves regulated activity with children and requires an enhanced DBS with barred list check.
Qualifications
- Desirable: Certifications in Construction, Building, Engineering, or IOSH
- Minimum of GCSEs, NVQs, or SVQs
- Experience with individuals with autism or SEN is not required but is advantageous
- Full UK driving license
