Birchwood School is looking for a dedicated and hands-on Site Caretaker to help create an environment where children and young people with complex needs can feel safe, supported and inspired every day. Responsibilities
- General Maintenance
- Carrying out daily repairs and planned maintenance
- Completing essential health and safety checks
- Inspecting heating, lighting and alarm systems
- Supporting cleaning tasks when needed
- Grounds & Presentation
- Gardening, landscaping and keeping outdoor spaces tidy
- Painting, decorating and improving site appearance
- Managing tools, equipment and materials
- Site Security
- Opening and closing the school each day
- Performing regular security checks
- Supporting traffic flow on site
- Working with contractors, overseeing site inductions and supervising when required
- Vehicle Support
- Carrying out basic checks and cleaning of school vehicles
Qualifications and Experience
- GCSEs/NVQs/SVQs (or equivalent)
- Experience with basic repairs, maintenance or caretaking
- Clear communication and great organisation
- The ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure
- A basic understanding of health and safety (training available)
- Confidence travelling locally using school vehicles
Qualifications in construction, engineering or IOSH are an advantage but not a requirement.
