Birchwood School is looking for a dedicated and hands-on Site Caretaker to help create an environment where children and young people with complex needs can feel safe, supported and inspired every day. Responsibilities

  • General Maintenance
    • Carrying out daily repairs and planned maintenance
    • Completing essential health and safety checks
    • Inspecting heating, lighting and alarm systems
    • Supporting cleaning tasks when needed
  • Grounds & Presentation
    • Gardening, landscaping and keeping outdoor spaces tidy
    • Painting, decorating and improving site appearance
    • Managing tools, equipment and materials
  • Site Security
    • Opening and closing the school each day
    • Performing regular security checks
    • Supporting traffic flow on site
    • Working with contractors, overseeing site inductions and supervising when required
  • Vehicle Support
    • Carrying out basic checks and cleaning of school vehicles

Qualifications and Experience

  • GCSEs/NVQs/SVQs (or equivalent)
  • Experience with basic repairs, maintenance or caretaking
  • Clear communication and great organisation
  • The ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure
  • A basic understanding of health and safety (training available)
  • Confidence travelling locally using school vehicles

Qualifications in construction, engineering or IOSH are an advantage but not a requirement.
