Orbia Fluor and Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is looking for a Process Engineer to be based in Runcorn, Cheshire, UK.

Main Purpose

Provide process engineering support across the site (80% Medical / 20% Site) supporting both the medical and non-medical operating areas by delivering work related to day-to-day technical support of the operating assets, troubleshooting/root cause analysis, projects & modifications, process engineering, improvements and optimization, investigations/deviations, and audits. Function as part of the Technical Team for the operating areas, working closely with the Technical Plant Managers and with other functions to ensure safe, reliable, efficient and cGMP compliant operation of the assets to achieve the overall business objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate full personal and professional commitment to SHEQ&S and proactively support the management team in continuously complying with and improving SHEQ&S systems and processes.
  • Support the Operations Team and Site, effectively managing and resolving technical issues related to plant and unit operation. This includes day to day as well as medium to longer term technical issues or improvements.
  • Effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on technical and engineering problems to facilitate safe, dependable, and efficient operation of their assets.
  • Participate in training and development activities related to the operating team and develop, perform, and support training, competence management and human-factors-related activities as required by the management team.
  • Develop, optimise, and produce required technical and managerial reports on time and to the right quality. Present these reports and associated investigation to internal management teams and customers as and when required.
  • Conduct conceptual, front-end, or detailed process engineering for assigned projects and modifications to ensure compliance with statutory requirement, recognised good practice and relevant national or corporate standards. Effectively manage assigned projects from concept to implementation including outsourcing when required.
  • Support and Deputise for the Technical Plant Managers to effectively coordinate and manage systems related to safety, operability, costs, or risk management such as but not limited to alarms, SIS, reliability, RCA, VPCs/unit usages, OEE etc.
  • Support and when required lead investigation of deviations, identifying corrective and preventative actions, checking for effectiveness, and meeting associated deadlines.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of the SHEQ and cGMP document library by collaborating with key stakeholders and reviewing documents in a timely manner.
  • Support customer and regulatory audits.

Qualifications

Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.

Knowledge/ Experience Required

You will ideally have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience within the chemicals or process industry in a technical capacity.
  • Experience working on or supporting operating chemical assets.
  • A history of delivering projects or modifications, taking ideas from concept through to execution.
  • Experience developing technical proposals, reports, and documentation, including investigations and root cause analysis.
  • The ability to work effectively within a multi‑disciplinary team, balancing individual contribution with collaboration.

In addition, you may also bring:

  • Understanding of process or chemical engineering principles and unit operations.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management systems and techniques, such as HAZOP, Management of Change, pre‑start‑up safety reviews, alarm management, SIS, and DSEAR.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and investigation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement / LEAN principles.
  • Experience or knowledge of cGMP and/or COMAH would be an advantage.
