Overview

Orbex are looking for experienced Harness Design Engineer to join AIT Team with significant skills in design, development, integration and validation of electrical wiring and interconnect systems for launch vehicles.

You will play a crucial role in supporting Assembly, Integration, and Testing activities for harness design and integration, be responsible for following standards for a safe and reliable system ensuring compliance to required regulations and manufacturing benchmarks.

The Position

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Design and create detailed wiring design with 2D schematics and 3D routing.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620/ECSS-Q-ST standards to maintain high-quality standards in harnessing and avionics integration.
  • Define and select the different connectors, cables, shields, grounding with protections required for the integration of harnesses.
  • Support with overall system architecture by developing harnessing topologies and electrical distribution strategies.
  • Generate BOM, wiring diagrams, pin-out diagrams, and assembly drawings.
  • Coordinate with other departments to realize a good fit and a reasonable interface for all devices onboard.
  • Perform harness validation checks and integrity checks.
  • Participate in design reviews and carry out detailed FMEA hazard analysis for harnesses.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational background in Electrical Engineering, Avionics, Aerospace or a related field.
  • Experience in harness routing and harness integration in an aerospace setting.
  • Proven experience with harness design and tool such as SolidWorks Electrical
  • Experience in rigorous testing and validation cycles on harnesses.
  • Understanding of EMC/EMI requirements and able to follow standards such as ECSS-ST-Q, RCC319 for aerospace related implementations.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles.

Desirable experience and traits

  • Qualification in IPC/WHMA-A-620 (IP620) standards to ensure high-quality harnessing and assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical/avionics systems for testing and integration purposes.
