We are recruiting for a Waste Management Consultant to join our growing and prosperous Waste Management team. You will focus on the development and assessment of radioactive waste inventories and characterisation data to support waste management strategies. You will also provide support to other projects in the areas of decommissioning and environmental management.

Responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to business development by supporting proposals/bids, supporting waste discipline, and implementing improvement initiatives.
- Undertaking activities in support of continuous professional development.
- Contributing to developing creative ideas, strategies, and new service offers which aim to better manage waste for UK and international clients.
- Carrying out studies, research, and analysis relating to waste management and characterisation.
- Providing robust and timely technical radioactive waste management expertise to support a range of clients in new build, operations, and decommissioning.
- Advising on areas such as characterisation (including sentencing), management, production, treatment, storage, packaging, and consignment of radioactive waste.
- Working with other departments, such as safety case, decommissioning, and engineering, to provide our clients with a comprehensive offering.
- Producing technical reports, such as Waste Strategies, Project Waste Management Plans, BAT studies, optioneerings, Characterisation strategies, Sampling Plans utilising DQO, packaging proposals, and calculations associated with waste activity assessment or dose assessment.
- Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in a relevant nuclear engineering, decommissioning, waste management, or engineering (preferably with a specialist in nuclear) field.
- Minimum of 3 years professional engineering/technical specialist experience.
- Experience in nuclear decommissioning or waste management projects.
- Good working knowledge of UK and/or international legislation, policy, regulatory guidance, and best practice relating to radioactive waste management and characterisation.
- Knowledge of the radioactive waste supply chain in the UK and/or internationally, including available waste disposal, storage, or treatment facilities and their acceptance criteria and permits.
- Experience in planning, executing, and facilitating stakeholder engagement activities (workshops, teleconferences, data gathering, etc.) and analysing outputs and next steps.
- An appreciation of the full lifecycle of radioactive waste from planning for decommissioning at the design phase through to permit surrender after decommissioning and remediation.
- Experience in writing technical reports/memos on technical subjects to clients’ requirements to convey messages/findings of a project in a clear and effective manner.
- Good communication skills appropriate for client-facing interactions as well as interactions with colleagues of various levels and disciplines.
Close working relationships with other Orano sites and client sites may be required, necessitating regular travel to those sites.
