Robertson Geo is a global company based in North Wales, designing, developing, and manufacturing market–leading geophysical wireline technologies. Our products are trusted worldwide for their accuracy and reliability in challenging environments. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multi–disciplinary engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on varied projects, including wireline winches, surface equipment, and borehole logging probes designed for high–pressure and demanding conditions. As part of a small, focused team, you will take projects from concept and prototyping through to testing and production, playing a key role in delivering robust and innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical solutions that integrate with electronic systems
- Present and discuss ideas during design review meetings
- Assemble and test prototype designs
- Analyse designs using engineering calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Create engineering technical drawings and assembly procedures to be used by the in–house and sub–contracted manufacturing teams
- Produce technical data packs in accordance with relevant CE, UKCA and ISO 9001 standards
- Provide engineering support for the manufacture and improvement of established products through corrective action request (CAR) system
- Engage with colleagues from departments across the business
- Work in accordance with the company's quality, health and safety policies
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical engineering experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or HND with significant experience)
- Proficient in SolidWorks CAD
- Experience in producing engineering drawings including GD&T
- Hands–on mechanical experience with prototype assembly and part modification
- Practical experience with test methodology and procedures
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and materials
- Understanding of stress/strain theory
- Excellent communication, presentation, and report–writing skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- High level of initiative, self–motivation, and confidence in decision–making
- Strong attention to detail and a diligent approach to work
- Legal right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA)
- Use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and result interpretation
- Basic understanding of electrical power systems and electronic control circuits
- Experience preparing CE compliance documentation
- Knowledge of pressure vessel design and testing
- Knowledge of lifting equipment design and testing
