Assistant Outdoor Instructor / Tutor

Join Field Studies Council Rhyd-y-Creuau as a Seasonal Assistant Instructor / Tutor and help people connect with nature while gaining hands-on experience in outdoor education.

• Permanent seasonal contract – based on an average 37.5 hours per week during the core season (normally February to October).

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting outdoor learning experiences that develop confidence, teamwork, and environmental awareness.
• Assisting with curriculum-linked fieldwork in Geography and Biology.
• Maintaining equipment, vehicles, and learning spaces to high standards.
• Contributing to centre duties, including welcoming groups, issuing equipment, and supporting independent courses.
• Reflecting on feedback to help improve the quality of our Adventure Learning programmes.

Your weekly hours will vary across the season, with more during busy periods and fewer in quieter weeks.

Rhyd‑y‑Creuau sits in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, surrounded by rugged peaks, quiet wooded valleys, and the dramatic coastline of North Wales. It’s a place where days begin with the sound of the river running through the grounds and the landscape around you invites exploration and discovery. Our 2.2‑hectare estate blends natural beauty with hands-on learning spaces: woodland trails, a biodiversity garden, ponds and streams, a campfire circle, and open areas for team challenges and fieldwork. Working here means inspiring learners in one of Wales’s most striking landscapes, where the outdoors isn’t just scenery; it’s your classroom, your toolkit, and your daily source of adventure.

Who we’re looking for:

• Enthusiastic, proactive, and adaptable individuals who love being outdoors.
• Experience or a keen interest in environmental and adventurous activities.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with learners of all ages and abilities.
• Full driving licence with a willingness to drive our vehicles when required.
• A commitment to personal development and learning new skills.
• Desirable but not essential: NGB outdoor activity qualifications (ML, RCI, BCU Paddlesport) or a degree in Science, Geography, Environmental Studies, Outdoor Education or a related discipline.
