Age Connects Morgannwg is the leading charity working with older people living in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend and Merthyr Tefil. We have a strong history with over 45 years of supporting older people and their families through some of the most difficult times in their life.
Job Purpose
As part of a small catering team, this role will ensure every customer of The Hub Café and Coffee Shop has a positive experience and will want to return again and again. Under the direction of the Lead Chef, this role will help with preparation of food in the kitchen and ensure the swift operation of The Hub Café and Coffee Shop whilst maintaining a high level of customer service, cleanliness, and service.
As a core part of the Catering team, a friendly, warm, and welcoming manner is essential.
The post will comprise three components:
- Customer Service
- Maintain a clear customer focus, proactively develop and maintain high standards of customer care.
- Take orders and make recommendations where they would be welcomed, introducing new dishes or specials, whilst noting any special requirements the customers may have.
- Ensure The Hub Café and Coffee Shop is compliant to the highest possible standards of safety, cleanliness, quality, and performance standards.
- Work closely with the Hospitality Manager to ensure the catering needs are met for all organisations hiring space at Cynon Linc in line with requirements.
- Operational
- Be confident in the production of high-quality food and refreshments.
- Process payments made via card and cash, dealing with transactional enquiries whilst confident to cash up and reconcile at the end of the day.
- Ensure The Hub meets all Quality Assurance standards required to establish and maintain a Food Standard rating of 5.
- Serving hot and cold food and drinks such as coffee, tea, artisan and speciality beverages, cakes and some light hot food items.
- Ensure all tables are cleared, cleaned, and turned over in a timely manner minimising waiting times and maintaining the overall appearance of The Hub Café and Coffee Shop.
- Work closely within a high performing team of paid staff and volunteers to deliver on organisational values, goals and targets.
- Cleanliness and hygiene
- Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, floors, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks to the daily, weekly & monthly schedule.
- Cleaning the front counter once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day.
- Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly.
- Keeping the refuse & recycling area tidy and ready for collection.
- Flagging any faulty or damaged equipment or food packaging to the lead chef and/or Hospitality manager.
- Responding to Environmental health request and reports under the supervision of your line manager.
All Cynon Linc roles are expected to work some weekends and evenings. All staff/volunteers working for Age Connects Morgannwg are expected to respond appropriately to any concerns that they may have regarding the abuse/inappropriate treatment of vulnerable adults. This will usually mean alerting their line manager. The protection of vulnerable adults is a core responsibility at all times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education/Training (Type/Level)
- Essential: Food Hygiene Level 2
- Desirable: Food Hygiene Level 3, Customer Service qualification (NVQ)
Experience (Years, field)
- Essential: Minimum of 12 months experience of working within a busy catering or hospitality facility.
- Desirable: Experience of working in a community-based café, Experience of working as a Barista.
Skills/Abilities
- Essential: Customer service experience, Competent using an Electronic Point of Sale system, Able to resolve customers' complaints/feedback, Able to work unsupervised and manage own time effectively, Able to maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness within a catering environment, Understands and maintains confidentiality at all times.
