Job Description
About the Role
Oracle is building a specialist team to drive growth in our UK Defence business, with a focus on enabling modernisation and mission effectiveness through Oracle’s Database Platform (DBP) and wider cloud portfolio.
As a Defence Cloud Sales Director – Database Platform, you will play a key role in identifying, shaping and delivering major transformation opportunities in partnership with the UK Ministry of Defence and the wider Defence ecosystem. You will work closely with our field sales teams, partners and Oracle Engineering to position Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as the platform of choice for Defence data workloads and mission-critical applications.
This role demands a unique blend of strategic leadership, Defence mission insight, and deep understanding of cloud technology, with a particular emphasis on Oracle’s data platform capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the identification and development of large-scale Oracle Database Platform opportunities within the MOD and Defence Industry.
- Build trusted relationships across Front Line Commands (FLCs), Top Level Budgets (TLBs), DE&S, Dstl, and Strategic Command.
- Use your sector insight to align Oracle’s database and cloud propositions with Defence mission needs — including data integration, operational resilience, sovereignty, and AI-readiness.
- Drive engagement across the Oracle partner ecosystem to amplify and accelerate market impact.
- Collaborate with Oracle’s cross-functional teams, including Oracle Consulting and Oracle Industries, to present a unified, mission-aligned value proposition.
- Shape long-term account strategies with Sales and Engineering to deliver sustained growth and relevance.
What You’ll Bring
Defence Sector / Domain Expertise
- Deep understanding of UK Defence structures, funding frameworks, and decision-making processes — including experience working with or within MOD.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively at 2*/3* level and/or senior SCS, with an existing network across Defence stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the Defence Digital landscape, including accreditation, security constraints, and the role of cloud-native technologies.
- Experience supporting MOD digital transformation, either from industry or military service.
- Understanding of the Defence partner landscape and how to build joint propositions.
Software & Cloud Sales Acumen
- Proven experience in software or cloud sales, ideally within the public or Defence sector.
- Expertise in pipeline management, forecasting, demand generation, and account planning.
- Demonstrable success in converting demand into large-scale cloud transformation wins.
- Commercial fluency in cloud consumption models, contracts, and licensing strategies.
Technology Acumen
- Solid grasp of Oracle’s database technologies and the value they bring to Defence — from secure data hosting and analytics to mission support and AI enablement.
- Experience with OCI or other hyperscale platforms in secure or classified settings is an advantage.
Leadership
- A strategic thinker who can align long-term vision with tactical execution.
- A strong team player with the confidence to lead across matrixed organisations.
- Outstanding communicator with the ability to translate complex mission needs into technical outcomes.
