- The Purpose
- As an
IT Support Engineer , you’ll help keep OQC’s technology estate reliable, secure and ready to scale.
You’ll provide hands‑on 1st and 2nd line support, contribute to more complex 3rd line issues, and make sure our teams have the technology, systems and support they need to do their best work.
This is an opportunity to go beyond ticket resolution: you’ll help improve how IT operates, strengthen our processes and contribute to the technology foundations of a growing quantum computing business.
The Role
Reporting to the
Head of IT , you’ll take ownership of IT support across a varied environment spanning Windows, mac OS, Linux, cloud platforms, networks and end‑user hardware.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across IT and the wider organisation, managing issues through their full lifecycle while contributing to security, compliance, service improvement and cross‑functional projects.
You’ll also have opportunities to build your technical depth by collaborating with 3rd line specialists and working with emerging technologies.
- What You’ll Be Working On
- Own 1st and 2nd line support requests from diagnosis through to resolution, working to agreed SLAs and escalating complex or high‑impact issues when needed.
- Troubleshoot and maintain a diverse IT estate spanning Windows, mac OS and Linux desktop/server environments, cloud services, applications and end‑user hardware.
- Monitor IT systems proactively, identifying performance or availability risks and supporting incident, problem, backup, recovery and resilience processes.
- Deliver smooth onboarding and off‑boarding while maintaining accurate records across hardware, software, licences and other IT assets.
- Strengthen our IT knowledge base by maintaining clear documentation, sharing expertise and supporting the development of junior colleagues.
- Improve how we operate by identifying opportunities to automate, streamline and strengthen systems and processes, researching emerging technologies and implementing approved changes.
- Contribute technical expertise to cross‑team projects, audits and security initiatives, ensuring work aligns with relevant policies, ISO standards and GDPR requirements.
- What We’re Looking For
- Experience delivering
1st and 2nd line IT support , with exposure to 3rd line support, in an SLA‑driven technical environment.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across hardware and software, including
Windows 10/11 and Windows Server, mac OS, and Ubuntu Linux desktop/server environments .
- Hands‑on experience with modern workplace and cloud technologies such as
Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Azure/Entra , alongside general application support.
- Experience using ticketing, task tracking, documentation and support desk tools , with confidence maintaining IT documentation and knowledge bases.
- Practical experience across
IT asset management, endpoint management, software/licence management, backup and disaster recovery , and user onboarding/offboarding.
- Understanding of incident and problem management, networking and cybersecurity fundamentals , with awareness of compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and GDPR.
- A
BSc in IT or a relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience , combined with an adaptable, detail‑focused approach and a strong commitment to quality.
- The 'Nice-to-Haves'
- Experience supporting global teams across multiple offices or working within a fast‑moving start‑up environment.
- Exposure to high‑performance computing or quantum computing environments.
- Experience with
Cisco or Juniper networks and firewalls , virtual machines, cybersecurity tooling and security best practices.
- Scripting or automation experience using technologies such as
Power Shell or Bash .
- Experience contributing to
IT projects, audits, compliance reviews or security assessments .
- Familiarity with emerging technologies, including practical applications of
AI within IT environments .
- Certifications such as
Microsoft or Linux certifications, Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA, Comp TIA Security+/Network+, ISO 27001, ITIL , or other relevant IT, networking or security qualifications.
