We’re looking for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support a critical platform within a high-performing environment, who is an expert in PostgreSQL. This role is a hybrid role based off 2 working days a month in the Swindon office.
This role is focused on optimisation, stability, and performance—working hands-on to ensure the database environment is running efficiently, reliably, and at scale.
Key Responsibilities- Optimise and tune PostgreSQL databases to improve performance and reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues and query bottlenecks
- Monitor database health, performance, and availability
- Ensure platform stability through proactive maintenance and improvements
- Analyse and optimise SQL queries, indexing strategies, and execution plans
- Support incident resolution and provide root cause analysis
- Implement best practices across database operations and maintenance
- Work closely with engineering and infrastructure teams to improve overall system performance
- Strong experience as a PostgreSQL DBA / Database Administrator
- Proven track record of performance tuning and optimisation in live environments
- Deep understanding of query optimisation, indexing, and execution plans
- Experience troubleshooting production database issues under pressure
- Strong operational background supporting mission-critical systems
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, and high availability strategies
- Experience in high transaction environments (e.g. financial services, payments, fintech)
- Exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL (AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure, GCP)
- Experience with Dynatrace
