Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join its Learning Disability Team. This role requires a dedicated professional who is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred social work services, promoting independence, and supporting adults with learning disabilities to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice within current legislation, statutory guidance, and Walsall Council policies and procedures.
  • Undertake strengths-based assessments that promote self-determination, independence, empowerment, and community resilience.
  • Co-produce care and support plans with service users, including agreeing financial contributions where required.
  • Regularly review care and support plans to ensure effectiveness, improved outcomes, and best-value principles.
  • Manage a varied caseload effectively, ensuring work is completed within national and local timescales.
  • Assess, manage, and mitigate risks to achieve the best possible outcomes for adults with care and support needs and their carers.
  • Advocate for service users, ensuring their voices are heard and that appropriate advocacy support is accessed where required by legislation.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partner agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with Council policies and procedures.
  • Participate actively in supervision and consultation with management, keeping line managers informed of any significant developments or concerns.

Statutory Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to undertake duties under relevant legislation, including but not limited to:

  • Care Act 2014, including Section 9 and Section 10 assessments and Section 42 safeguarding enquiries.
  • Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Other relevant statutory duties and responsibilities in accordance with best social work practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with relevant professional registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a Learning Disability Team.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. As the role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check, applicants must declare any cautions or convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.
