Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive UK Financial Risk and Controls Manager to lead the development of a strong risk culture within the Finance function. This senior role is critical in ensuring the integrity and robustness of financial controls, supporting effective risk management, and maintaining high standards of financial reporting quality and compliance. In this position, you'll work closely with Finance leadership, second-line risk teams, external auditors, and regulators to embed best practices, strengthen controls, and promote a risk-aware environment across the organisation. You will play a key role in implementing risk mitigation strategies, managing control frameworks, and ensuring audit readiness.
Our client operates a hybrid working model that enables colleagues to balance their time between home and the office in a way that supports collaboration and productivity. The role typically requires at least two days a week working away from home, increasing to three days in the future. This may include attending office locations, visiting clients, or participating in industry events. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed with Talent Acquisition.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead initiatives to embed a strong risk culture across Finance by promoting awareness of risk management principles and best practices.
- Partner with Finance leadership to identify and support risk champions within each business area.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the Risk & Controls Matrix, ensuring it accurately reflects key processes and controls.
- Facilitate risk and control self-assessments, contribute to scenario workshops, and support operational risk capital calculations.
- Organise annual process reviews to assess control effectiveness and identify emerging risks.
- Coordinate periodic control attestations and support control owners with documentation in line with internal standards.
- Drive timely implementation of remediation plans, escalating issues where necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
- Support the integration of risk management and control principles into projects, system changes, and automation initiatives, ensuring compliance with internal control frameworks.
What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in risk management, controls, or audit within a financial services or insurance environment.
- Strong leadership skills with a proactive approach to embedding risk culture and driving continuous improvement.
- Deep understanding of financial controls, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements.
