About the role: To plan, cost, support, lead and manage design and construction projects, ensuring the designs are compliant and economical. You will be responsible for all cost related activities and for supporting the wider multidiscipline teams. You will also be expected to support the more junior team members with development, as well as support to the leadership team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support the preparation of bids for professional services schemes.
- Report to clients, public agencies and planning bodies.
- Proactively understand and implement statutory and relevant contract guidance to projects.
- Assist in the development and delivery of new processes across the team.
- Prepare co-ordinated costings in accordance with RIBA plan of works, assisting in the development of designs, programmes and contract documentation.
- Support client in developing project briefs, informing our scope of service and subsequent fee proposals.
- Work around constraining factors such as planning legislation, building regulations, environmental impact and project budget.
- Work closely with teams of other professionals such as Designers, Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Engineers and Architectural Assistants both internally and externally.
- Prepare applications for payment certificates, financial reports and final account agreements, prepare relevant documents for pricing and contract issue.
- Support with the selection of materials to be used and the requirements for the project, based on cost, site and environmental criteria.
- Assist and co-ordinate with the project design team at all stages of projects.
- Travel regularly to construction sites, proposed locations and client meetings.
- Assist with implementing the cost consultancy team business plan.
It's essential you have:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant experience.
- Ability to undertake and support the Lead QS / Contract Administration role and deliver a multitude of different types of construction projects.
- Five+ years UK professional experience as a quantity surveyor.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals. Strong cost and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of the Building Regulations, relevant British and European Standards and an understanding of Health and Safety.
- Ability to work directly with clients and other team members to ensure projects are completed in agreed timescales.
- Understanding of current contracts including JCT and NEC.
- Awareness of the various design requirements and regulations including NetZero, planning regulations, building control regulations and DfE requirements.
- Electronic measurement software proficiency.
