Location: Walsall Civic Centre

Rate: £41.42 per hour

Contract Length: 6 months

Working Pattern: Hybrid - Office-based Monday and Tuesdays

About the Role

Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Youth Justice Service Team Manager to join the service on an interim basis. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership and line management support to Youth Justice Officers supervising children with complex needs and high‑risk offending behaviours. This is a key leadership role within a multi‑disciplinary team, focused on reducing offending, safeguarding children and young people, and improving outcomes across the borough.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management to a multi‑disciplinary Youth Justice team.
  • Support the service’s core aim of preventing and reducing offending by children and young people.
  • Ensure children, young people, families, and communities have a voice in service delivery.
  • Oversee the delivery of robust, high‑quality interventions.
  • Ensure inclusive and effective services for vulnerable children and families, safeguarding and promoting welfare.
  • Lead on safeguarding, public protection, and risk management.
  • Contribute to reducing the use of remands and custodial sentences and over‑representation of BAME children in the Criminal Justice System.
  • Support improved educational outcomes for children and young people.

Skills

  • A strong level of relevant experience within the Youth Justice sector.
  • Proven experience in line management or supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to manage risk, safeguarding, and complex cases effectively.
  • Qualified Social Workers, Probation Officers, or candidates with a relevant degree and Youth Justice experience will be considered.
