This is a unique opportunity to play a behind-the-scenes but critical role in shaping leadership across local government. We are looking for someone with exceptional attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to contribute to positive change across the public sector. Whilst recruitment experience is desirable it is not essential.
Working closely with the Head of Executive Workforce, you will support high-profile senior appointments across councils nationwide. You will help identify and engage outstanding leaders who will go on to deliver against the ambitions of elected members and improve outcomes for communities. This role sits at the heart of executive search. It is ideal for someone who takes real pride in the quality of their work, enjoys research and problem-solving, and is motivated by the impact their work can have.
You will play a central role in delivering executive search assignments, with responsibility for:
- Researching and identifying senior talent using LinkedIn and other sourcing methods
- Building high-quality longlists and supporting the development of shortlists
- Conducting structured screening calls with senior candidates and capturing clear, insightful notes
- Managing candidate engagement with professionalism, discretion and care
- Producing well-written, high-quality reports and search updates
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records at all times
- Supporting the wider delivery of recruitment campaigns to a consistently high standard
You will also provide key administrative support across projects, ensuring everything runs efficiently and to a high level of precision.
This role will suit someone who:
- Has exceptional attention to detail and takes pride in producing high-quality work
- Brings a strong work ethic and a sense of ownership to everything they do
- Is highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Communicates confidently and professionally, particularly when engaging senior individuals
- Is motivated by purpose and wants to contribute to improving the public sector
Experience in recruitment or executive search is advantageous, but not essential. More important is your ability to learn quickly, apply yourself fully, and deliver work to a consistently high standard. An understanding of local government or an interest in how it operates would be beneficial, but again, mindset and capability are the priority.
