Shropshire Council is seeking an experienced Fostering Social Worker within their fostering service. This is a hybrid role, with most work completed from home. However, you will be required to attend team meetings, practice meetings and other essential in‑person commitments approximately 2-3 times per month. The role also covers the entire Shropshire area, so access to a vehicle and a full driving licence are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out assessments of prospective and existing foster carers, ensuring they are able to provide safe, supportive and nurturing homes.
- Provide regular supervision and guidance to foster carers, offering emotional and practical support to maintain high standards of care.
- Work proactively with foster carers and professionals to support placement stability, identifying early signs of disruption and putting appropriate interventions in place.
- Complete statutory visits, respond to safeguarding concerns and ensure the ongoing wellbeing of children in care.
- Liaise with health, education and other professionals to support the child's care plan and ensure their holistic needs are met.
- Attend foster carer reviews, LAC reviews and multi-agency meetings, both virtually and in person as required.
- Produce high-quality assessments, reports and case notes that meet statutory and local authority requirements.
- Support training and development activities for foster carers and assist in their ongoing professional learning.
- Manage a varied caseload across the whole county, requiring flexibility and effective time management.
