Coventry City Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Help & Protection Team based within the Families For All Hub. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive and dynamic frontline service, helping to safeguard children and support families to achieve positive and lasting outcomes.

Rate: £28.55 per hour (Umbrella)

As a Social Worker within the Help & Protection Team, you will work directly with children, young people and families, undertaking statutory interventions and delivering high-quality social work practice. You will manage a varied caseload, undertaking assessments, safeguarding work and direct interventions for children and families with complex needs. The role requires confident decision-making, strong partnership working and a commitment to delivering child-centred practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with children and families in accordance with relevant legislation, statutory guidance and departmental procedures
  • Undertaking complex assessments and developing effective intervention plans
  • Managing Children in Need and Child Protection cases
  • Delivering direct support and interventions to children and families
  • Assessing and managing risk to ensure the safety and welfare of children
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes
  • Supporting families through legal planning processes where required
  • Preparing reports and providing instructions to Legal Services for court proceedings
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records using Coventry City Council's recording systems
  • Participating in supervision, training and continuous professional development activities
  • Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the service
Requirements
  • Social Work England registration
  • A recognised Social Work qualification
  • Experience within Children’s Services, particularly safeguarding and child protection
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance and social work practice standards
  • Experience completing assessments and managing statutory casework
  • Excellent communication, assessment and report-writing skills
  • The ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and partner agencies
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for children and families
Working Arrangements
  • The team operates a duty rota system, with social workers on duty 1 week in every 4
  • During duty weeks, staff are required to be office-based all week
  • The service is predominantly office-based to support collaborative practice and service delivery
  • Working from home can be arranged for 1 day per week, subject to service requirements
