Location: Salary: up to £78,011 (including Monitoring Officer Allowance of £5,978) Permanent Full-time: 37 hours per week

We are working in partnership with a forward-thinking Local Authority client to recruit a highly capable and ambitious Chief Officer - Legal and Governance. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced legal and governance professional who is ready to make a real strategic impact. You'll be the organisation’s key legal advisor and Monitoring Officer, with leadership responsibility for Legal Services, Democratic Services, Elections, Business Support, and Equality & Diversity.

As Chief Officer - Legal and Governance, you will:

  • Provide strategic legal and constitutional advice at the highest level
  • Act as Monitoring Officer, ensuring lawful decision-making and ethical standards
  • Champion equality, diversity, and strong governance across all operations
  • Significant experience in local government legal services and governance
  • A track record of leading complex service areas through change and transformation
  • Strong knowledge of the legislative framework for local authorities
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills

This is an outstanding opportunity for a confident and experienced leader in the public sector legal space. Only applicants with strong Local Authority experience will be considered.
