Coventry City Council is seeking an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join its dedicated Mental Health Service on an interim basis to provide essential cover for a vacant post. This is a key frontline role supporting the AMHP Duty Desk, ensuring timely and effective responses to Mental Health Act assessment referrals. The successful candidate will work as part of a highly experienced team, contributing to the delivery of safe, responsive and person-centred mental health services.

The Role

  • Triaging Mental Health Act assessment referrals.
  • Supporting and contributing to the AMHP Duty Desk during business hours.
  • Undertaking Mental Health Act assessments in line with statutory requirements and best practice.
  • Working collaboratively with health partners, social care colleagues, service users and families.
  • Providing professional advice and guidance in relation to mental health legislation.
  • Ensuring accurate recording and timely completion of case documentation.

Working Pattern

Shifts required: 9:00am - 5:00pm, 2:00pm - 10:00pm. The role is primarily office-based at the Caludon Centre, although some flexibility may be available. Candidates must be able to work during the required shift patterns.

Essential Requirements

  • Hold current AMHP approval.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualified experience (PQE).
  • Demonstrate experience of Mental Health Act assessments and AMHP duty work.
  • Be able to work effectively within a fast-paced statutory environment.
  • Have excellent assessment, decision-making and risk management skills.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. As this role is eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, applicants are required to declare any cautions and convictions that are not protected under current filtering rules.
