As one of the UKs largest independent manufacturers supplying to the commercial sector, my client manufactures fine chemicals and rubber accelerators and has a history spanning over 150 years. With their headquarters in the West Midlands, they are true pioneers within the chemicals industry. With strategic expansion plans, an opportunity has arisen for a SHEQ Manager to join them and take ownership of planning and managing the SHE and Quality functions in the company.

Reporting directly into the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the SHE and Quality departments which set company policy, provide advice and manage all aspects of safety, health, environmental and quality functions. The key responsibilities for your new role as SHEQ Manager are as follows:

  • Providing leadership, guidance and support to the Health, Safety, Environmental, QC and QA functions.
  • Maintaining and improving the sites COMAH compliance, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and other standards and systems.
  • Acting as the main contact and guide for all site audits and regulatory body interventions, maintaining critical relationships with the Health & Safety Executive and Environment Agency.
  • Devising, writing, implementing and monitoring procedures and systems for health and safety, environmental and quality management systems.
  • Acting as an internal consultant on safety, health, environmental and quality matters.
  • Providing technical guidance to customers on products and managing any specification queries.
  • Managing customer interactions with regard to audits and complaints.
  • Chairing the safety committee, SHE management group and ISO standards management review meeting.
  • Communications with regulatory bodies, the general public and media, including liaison with trade associations and other relevant external organisations.
  • Identification of SHEQ training needs, assisting with preparation and technical content of training materials and delivery of some training.

My client is keen to find someone with significant health, safety, environmental and quality management experience gained from manufacturing preferably a high-hazard environment and a solid understanding of COMAH regulations. As a minimum you will also need to hold a NEBOSH certificate but ideally a NEBOSH Diploma. Regardless of previous expertise, you will be an effective Leader with great interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

In return, my client is offering an excellent salary, circa £65,000, dependent on experience, for a 36.25 hour week (8.45am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday). An excellent benefits package is also on offer, which includes 25 days holiday per year (+ Bank holidays), life assurance, pension scheme, medical cash benefit plan and a generous company sick scheme.
